Warning after attempts to steal jewellery in Aldershot

Police are warning members of the public following the attempted theft of jewellery from women in Aldershot.

At around 9.30am on Saturday, April 26 a 78-year-old woman was approached by two Asian women on Lysons Way and asked for money.

The victim refused and they then attempted to place a necklace around her neck.

It is thought they did this in order to confuse her so they could remove and steal her own jewellery.

The victim screamed and a man and a woman came to her aid. The suspects ran off without stealing anything.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 29 there were four similar incidents in which two men and two women of Asian appearance were sat in a silver BMW 5 Series at the junction of Victoria Road and Queens Road.

They called out to women asking for directions to the doctors or dentist and encouraged them to approach the car. They attempted to place jewellery around their necks in an apparent attempt to remove their own jewellery.

The victims were aged between 50 and 70. No injuries were caused and no jewellery was stolen.

PC Vicky Brackstone said:

"I would like to hear from anyone who thinks they may have witnessed these incidents or who may have been approached by the suspects.

These are unusual incidents and we have received no further reports but please be aware when you are out and about and try to keep your valuables out of sight."

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact PC Blackstone by calling 101. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
