Yateley and Blackwater residents urged to be vigilant following crimes in the area

Officers from the Yateley and Blackwater area are urging residents to assess the security of their sheds, garages, homes and cars during the current warm weather.

There have been incidents of thefts from outbuildings and cars in the area recently.

Safer Neighbourhoods team are carrying out extra patrols in the affected areas and taking positive action to identify those responsible.

Residents can take steps to help prevent crime by following the simple crime prevention advice below and can also assist police in locating those responsible by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity:

If you want further advice about property marking, Immobilise or crime prevention please contact your local SNT.

Sergeant Rob Wallis said:

"People do not often realise the value of the contents of their shed or garage until they have been the victim of crime and need to replace lawnmowers, bikes and tools.

Please take a moment to review the security of your shed and garage and consider if there is anything you can do to make your property a less appealing target for thieves.

Motorists are still leaving all sorts of valuables in their cars or leaving their cars unlocked. There is a false sense of security that if items are hidden your car will not be targeted but thieves will watch as you park up and hide items under seats or in the boot so please remove all valuable items.

In addition to this I would ask you to help us by reporting any suspicious activity in the area at the time it is happening as it may benefit our investigation and help us to find those responsible."

Anyone with information about non-dwelling burglaries should contact their local Safer Neighbourhoods team by calling 101.
